The new Mach 0.87 Astra SPX has arrived in Farnborough as part of a marketing drive for the European market.

Although not taking part in the flying display, the six-seater corporate jet has undergone an interior redesign with the aircraft's long-range capabilities clearly in mind.

The Astra - produced by Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) - has a range of more than 5,500km (3,000nm) and the new design by New York firm Dreyfuss has given greater space for galley and food storage as well as more stretch room.

The new SPX interior features six seats; two singles plus four in a club configuration which are fully berthable. The two front seats can recline to the flat position.

The mid-size business jet was certified by the FAA early this year and has now been delivered to customers in the USA, Canada and Argentina.

IAI also used Farnborough to announce a contract with France' SOGERMA for serial production of the fuselage and empennage for the wide-bodied Galaxy.

First flight of the Galaxy is due in the second quarter of 1997.
