NASA astronauts tested thermal protection system tile repair material during Space Shuttle Discovery's STS121 mission's third spacewalk, conducted on 12 July.

During the 7h 11min spacewalk, 12 panels of reinforced carbon carbon had the non-oxide adhesive experimental (NOAX) carbon-silicon carbide polymer powder applied to gouge and crack damage, to test NOAX's application as a repair material.

NASA mission specialists Piers Sellers and Michael Fossum completed three gouge and two crack repairs to the panels contained in a pallet in the Discovery's payload bay over a 2h 30min period.
