The International Civil Aviation Organisation's global safety oversight audit programme, operational since 1999, now complies with the ISO 9001 international procedural standard, according to an audit by AOQC Moody International. The organisation hopes the award will overcome member states' occasional refusal to recognise its mandate to audit states for safety oversight standards on sovereignty grounds. ICAO says it "will increase its effectiveness in working with member states".
