German regional carrier Augsburg Airways is to cut routes and staff as it is fully absorbed into Lufthansa. Augsburg became a full-team Lufthansa member at the start of this month. It will hand control of all scheduling, sales and marketing operations to the German flag carrier. Over the summer, Augsburg plans to operate 12 of its Bombardier Dash 8 turboprops under a wet-lease agreement with Lufthansa, until the deal is approved by German competition authorities. Augsburg's four remaining Dash 8s will be disposed of and almost a quarter of its 540 staff are to be made redundant. Augsburg's new chief executive Manfred Scholz says the change was necessary to guarantee the carrier's survival.
