A new regional carrier, Skytours, is preparing to launch operations with a Fairchild Dornier 228 in eastern Australia.

The airline, which is finalising the acquisition of a 228-200 from Air Malawi, is aiming to undertake a public flotation to raise A$3.62 million ($2.3 million). Chief executive Alan Falconer says the balance of finance will come from the float of an unlisted public company.

Skytours will fly scheduled services from Brisbane and Coolangatta in Queensland, and Ballina, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie in New South Wales (NSW). It plans to begin services to Newcastle, NSW, early next year, when Falconer will consider acquiring a second aircraft.
