The third location for ATR's full-flight static training devices will be Christchurch, New Zealand.

The Air New Zealand/Mount Cook Airlines training centre will open in the fourth quarter of this year with a Mechtronix non-hydraulic simulator.

John Moore, ATR vice-president commercial, says the training centre will be used as a low-cost alternative for ATR operators. The company has a full-flight simulator in Bangkok in Thailand, but 80% of training can be carried out using the static simulator, he says.

Meanwhile, ATR has sold three ATR 42-320s to Queensland ad hoc charter operator Jetcraft. The sale, together with one ATR 42-500 for Macair Airlines, marks a return to Australia after 18 years.
