Australia's Macquarie Airports (MAp) has acquired a 70% stake in the Brussels International Airport Company (BIAC), the joint venture that operates Brussels airport at Zaventem. The Australian group paid €735 million ($949 million) for the shares. The Belgian government will retain a 30% interest. Brussels airport handles 15 million passengers a year, down from a peak of 21 million in 2000 before the collapse of Belgian flag carrier Sabena.
