Austrian Airlines group is to reduce its 8,000-strong workforce by 12% as it cuts its capacity by 8% in 2002. This is on top of a capacity cut of 10% announced in October. Austrian will concentrate on east-west routes and a "focused" range of long-haul destinations from its Vienna hub. Services to New York, Delhi, Osaka, Amman, Bremen and Budapest will be reduced and Beirut dropped altogether.
