The US Air Force Research Laboratory (booth 3346) is working on ways to reduce the accident rate for the service's unmanned aircraft. The AFRL commissioned Crew Training International (booth 4611) to study the root cause of the problem. And, how to fix that problem, says Dave Kaiser, chief learning officer at the company.Poor crew resource management was the cause for many of the accidents. Thus the USAF is working on improved training with better academics and simulator training. The focus is on long-term training and changing behavior using multimedia. Kaiser says the company's technique ties training to emotional responses to enhance information retention. One innovation the company introduced is a computer-based training game/simulator to mimic teamwork. Results seem to show it works, Kaiser says.
