Start-up engine maker Cubewano (booth 402) is the newly announced engine supplier for the US Army's second increment of T-Hawk micro air vehicle (MAV).

T-Hawk prime contractor Honeywell is using a specialized version of Cubewano's Reno 42 LC heavy-fuel, liquid-cooled rotary engine in the Army's Brigade Combat Team Modernization (BCTM) Increment 2 MAV.

Delivery is expected later this year, Cubewano says.

The US military is using the Class 1 T-Hawk in Iraq and Afghanistan for surveillance and route clearance, flying ahead of convoys or ground units to detect improvised explosive devices or in a force protection role to remove the element of surprise. The larger Class 2 MAV is expected to have its first flight in early 2012.
