DRS Technologies has released the i2i-3 product to leap into the market for ultra-compact, gimballed sensors for unmanned aircraft systems.
Leveraging DRS's infrared detector technology, the company is offering a "high-performance, low-cost" electro-optical and infrared gimbal. The i2i-3 includes three payloads - a low-wave infrared camera, visible camera and laser pointer - that can both detect targets and designate them to be attacked by other weapons.
DRS says the 89mm (3.5in)-diameter gimballed turret ball is gyro-stabilized, with the entire package weighing .068kg (1.5lbs).
