Insitu (booth 4046) announced the first flight of the US Navy and Marine Corps Small Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System (STUAS) RQ-21A unmanned aircraft on 28 July.
The first flight of the RQ-21A happened about 21 months into a 27-month engineering, manufacturing and development (EMD) phase. The Department of the Navy is slated to consider purchasing a low-rate initial production (LRIP) version of the aircraft at the conclusion of EMD.
The marines are currently training with RQ-21A's precursor Integrator UAS, which is very similar to the new aircraft.
