Russia’s Samara-based Aviakor aircraft plant is to end production of Tu-154M passenger airliners, says Aviakor director general Sergei Likharev.

“We plan to complete and sell Tu-154M aircraft being built at the moment, but no new aircraft of this type will be put into mass production,” he adds.

The Samara plant has four Tu-154Ms in various states of readiness that have been sold, and six other aircraft are in various stages of production.

Aviakor will start overhauling Tu-154Ms when production ends, says Likharev. In 2004 the plant repaired 11 Tu-154s, and expects to work on 14 this year. The Tu-154M first flew in 1984.
