US aerospace parts provider and aftermarket firm Aviall Services has entered into an agreement with Pratt & Whitney to distribute JT9D engine spare parts to the world's operators, as part of the Boeing subsidiary's larger strategy to expand its business portfolio.

The JT9D was produced from 1969 through 1990 and powers Boeing 747 and 767 aircraft, Airbus A300 and A310 aircraft and McDonnell Douglas DC-10s. There are currently more than 1,200 installed engines.

Under today's pact, Pratt & Whitney says it will work with Aviall "to ensure their critical core competencies of inventory forecasting and management, field sales and marketing, product fulfillment, quality management and technology backed tools result in a seamless transition for Pratt & Whitney's customers".

Financial terms have not been disclosed.

"This is an exciting opportunity for both Pratt & Whitney and for Aviall. It is a perfect match of their exceptional products and our aftermarket expertise," says Aviall chief executive Paul Fulchino.

Two years ago Boeing completed the purchase of Aviall. Shortly thereafter, Aviall signed an international parts distribution deal with Spirit AeroSystems - itself a reincarnation of a former Boeing division - covering all markets outside North America.
