German Efromovich, who has bought a controlling stake in the Colombian airline Avianca through his Brazilian regional carrier Ocean Air, is reportedly negotiating for 30 of American Airlines' Fokker 100s, writes Rainer Uphoff.

A source close to the negotiations says the relatively low market value of the 100-seater would help to fuel an immediate expansion project for the airline.

Avianca chief executive Juan Emilio Posada has not confirmed negotiations, but says the airline is introducing an ex-Royal Brunei Boeing 757-200.
