Avianca now stands for "Aerovias del Continente Americano", or "Airways of the American Continent", instead of "Aerovias Nacioina les de Colombia", or "Colombian National Airways". The switch is designed to broaden the recently restructured airline's geographic scope, without compromising its well-known brand.
