Icelandic leasing company Avion Aircraft Trading claims it has other prospective customers for the Airbus A330-200 freighters which it had originally intended to sell to Icelandair Group.
Icelandair Group has abandoned plans to acquire four A330F aircraft from Avion which would have been used by its Icelandair Cargo division.
Avion Aircraft Trading chairman Hafthor Hafsteinsson tells ATI: “We do have alternative clients for our A330Fs so we will simply concentrate on those, and we are not too worried about it.”
But Hafsteinsson admits to being frustrated by Icelandair Group’s sudden reversal.
“The decision of Icelandair was a disappointing one because we have been wasting time for almost a year,” he says. “There was no indication from Icelandair that they would pull out and therefore it was surprising at the last minute.”
Avion ordered eight Rolls-Royce Trent 700-powered A330Fs last year. It recently sold delivery slots for eight Boeing 777 freighters to another lessor as part of a decision to concentrate more on Boeing 747-400F aircraft.
