The leaders of two of Europe's largest airlines walked off with the main awards at the second Airline Strategy Awards, hosted by Airline Business magazine and held in Washington during the International Air Transport Association's Annual General Meeting on 2 June.

Juergen Weber, chairman of Lufthansa, was awarded the Airline Business Award for lifetime achievement in the air transport industry, while the judging panel selected British Airways chief executive Rod Eddington for the executive leadership award based on the airline's remarkable turnaround over the past year.

The Airline Strategy Awards were first held on the eve of last year's Farnborough airshow, and are designed to recognise airline boardroom leadership and strategic vision.

The other winners were: Jim Ream of ExpressJet - regional airline leadership; US Airways - finance; JetBlue Airways - marketing; Lufthansa - operations; and Alaska Airlines - technology.
