British Airways says that the recent order/reconfirmation of 14 Boeing 747-400s will enable the ageing fleet of 15 747-100s to be phased out over the next four years. "These aircraft have more than earned their investment", says chief executive Bob Ayling. BA has not yet decided on the destiny of the 20- 25-year old -100 fleet, and, although buyers are being sought, the -100s may end up being scrapped.
