British Airways is launching flights from London Gatwick airport to the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on 31 March 2013.
The new route, which includes a stopover in the Maldives capital Malé, will be operated three times weekly with a Boeing 777.
BA had grounded its previous London-Colombo service in 1998 against a backdrop of worsening violence in the island nation's long-running civil war.
Sri Lanka's government declared victory over the Tamil Tiger rebels in 2009, formally bringing an end to the conflict.
