BAE Systems Avionics and Thales have agreed to team for future integrated avionics support packages on all UK armed forces helicopters. The deal builds on their work supporting the UK's Westland Sea King fleet. Thales says all UK helicopter types use the two companies' avionics and mission systems, including radar, electronic warfare, communications and navigation equipment. The companies say they are working with Westland, the Ministry of Defence's Defence Logistics Organisation and DARA, the agency responsible for maintaining UK service aircraft. Under the Sea King Integrated Operational Support (SKIOS) contract, industry is responsible for maintenance, spares, training and technical support. The MoD is expected to extend the SKIOS concept.
