Bahrain has signed a contract with BAE Systems for the supply of Hawk advanced trainers for its air force pilot academy. The Hawk's selection is the final part of the air academy's four-phase training plan which comprises synthetic training devices, including Hawk simulators, pilot selection services and the acquisition of three Slingsby T-67M260 elementary trainers, all of which will be supplied through BAE. The company declines to reveal the number of Hawks required, but the contract is likely to be for around six aircraft (Flight International, 30 July-5 August 2002).
