Atlas Air has awarded a $65 million contract to Israel Aircraft Industries subsidiary Bedek to convert four Boeing 747-400s into freighters. The work will span around six months beginning in late 2007. The agreement also includes an option to modify a further six -400s from 2009-11.

Boeing remains hesitant to jump headlong into developing hydrogen-powered aircraft due to safety and technical challenges, despite widespread calls for aircraft developers to roll out clean-burning designs as quickly as possible.
While Embraer has so far not announced any commercial jets orders at this year’s Farnborough air show, chief executive Arjan Meijer says there are numerous deals in the pipeline for at least 300 aircraft.
