The Bedek division of Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) expects to land its first Chinese cargo conversion deal in the coming months, as it discusses opening a conversion centre in China, writes Arie Egozi.

The company offers freighter conversions for the Boeing 737-300/400, 747-400, 757 and 767, and Bedek's director of marketing and business development Josh Oren says: "We expect to sign a first conversion contract in China by September". He adds that the 2008 Olympic Games in China will increase demand for cargo in the region, and confirms that parallel negotiations continue with some Chinese airlines about establishing joint centres for the conversions.

As part of its marketing effort, Bedek is hold its third conversion conference in Beijing on 8 September, which will be used to showcase the Israeli facility.
