A Beech King Air operated by Hendrick Motorsports hit mountainous terrain during a missed approach to Martinsville airport, Virginia on 12 October 2004 because the crew failed to execute the published instrument approach procedure, says the US National Transportation Safety Board. After being cleared for landing, the aircraft did not descend at the proper point then began a straight-ahead climb, instead of the correct climbing right turn, hitting mountainous terrain and killing all 10 on board.
