Three Belgian air force Lockheed Martin F-16As, three Lockheed Martin C-130H Hercules and an Airbus A310 troop transport were deployed to South Africa last month, testing the service's capability to deploy combat aircraft over long distances, to support the United Nations. This was the first time since 1959 that Belgian combat aircraft have deployed to Africa. During the trip, the F-16s took part in exercises with the South Africa Air Force's Denel Cheetah squadron.
