SNECMA IS IN advanced talks with BFGoodrich about a merger for its Messier-Bugatti carbon brakes business.

Although no details of the proposed deal have been released, it is expected to follow the blueprint laid down by the 50:50 Messier-Dowty landing-gear joint venture completed in 1994.

A deal would cement a long-standing partnership between the French and US companies, which led to a joint carbon-brake offering for the Airbus A330/340 and A321s.

A merger would create the world's largest carbon-brakes unit and help to give Messier-Bugatti access to the US market where BFGoodrich holds a commanding position on Boeing airliners.
