THREE COMPANIES are believed to have been shortlisted by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) for a contract to build and operate a simulator school for students undergoing advanced training on the Royal Air Force's British Aerospace Hawks.

Canada's CAE Electronics has been eliminated from the competition, leaving Reflectone UK, Thomson Training &Simulation and the UK's Quadrant Systems. The winning bidder will privately finance the construction and operation of a Hawk simulator centre in return for a long-term MoD contract to provide training time. The contract will include new Hawk training devices.

CAE is completing negotiations on a much larger contract to build and operate the UK MoD's privately financed medium support-helicopter training centre. A request for proposals is expected to be issued before the end of 1997 on a contract to build and operate a privately financed training centre for the RAF's Panavia Tornados.
