Barry Biffle will become president at Denver-based low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines, departing his chief executive position at VivaColombia less than a year after he took the top job at the Medellin-based airline.
He will report to Frontier's chief executive David Siegel with effect from 16 July, says Frontier. A VivaColombia spokesperson confirms Biffle's departure, but was not able to comment immediately on what the Colombian airline's plans are to replace him.
Biffle joined VivaColombia only in August 2013, following eight years at Spirit Airlines, where he was chief marketing officer.
"I’m excited about the opportunity with Frontier! Being part of a successful carrier with a rich history that delivers low fares in the right way is the future of this model in the United States," says Biffle in a Frontier statement.
Siegel says: “Barry is an industry innovator in the ultra-low cost space who, importantly, also recognises the unique opportunity we have to create the first customer friendly and customer focused ultra-low cost airline in the United States. I am looking forward to working with Barry again and am delighted to welcome him to Frontier in such a crucial role on our senior management team."
Siegel was formerly chief executive at US Airways, where Biffle had also worked at. Biffle has more than 20 years of experience in the airline industry.
Frontier has gone through a host of changes in recent years, culminating in its sale by Republic Airways Holdings to Indigo Partners in late 2013.
