Gulfstream has spent a fortune on birthday cake recently. On May 6, it celebrated the fifth anniversary of its Airborne Product Support (APS) service. The OEM has now completed more than 1,350 APS missions, 96 of which have been outside the United States.

On June 8, it got out the candles again to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the delivery of the first large-cabin, long-range Gulfstream IV in 1987. “From its launch in 1982, customers clamoured for the GIV. By the time the aircraft was first delivered, there was an 80-jet backlog worth $1.3 billion,” says Joe Lombardo, president, Gulfstream.

Ten years ago, on June 30, the Gulfstream V entered service. The first ultra-long-range business jet aircraft to enter the business aviation market, the GV was delivered to its launch customer in 1997 at the company’s Savannah headquarters.
Still in gestation is Gulfstream’s supersonic flight programme.
