The Canadian Space Agency flew a Geodesic programme mission into the upper atmosphere on 26 February using a Black Brant 12 suborbital booster launched from Poker Plat, Alaska. The 20m (65ft)-long Bristol Aerospace-built four-stage sounding rocket reached an apogee of 1,000km (620 miles) to observe the auroa borealis. The 17min flight ended with a landing in the Beaufort Sea. The mission also carried a charged particle detector for NASA.
