BMI British Midland is the latest airline to put the International Aero Engines V2500-powered Airbus A319 in to service, following the delivery of one of six aircraft it is leasing from International Lease Finance. The introduction is part of the airline's Blue Sky initiative to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency. The 130-seaters will primarily replace Fokker 100s, initially serving Brussels and Teesside from Heathrow. Two more aircraft will be delivered this year, with the remaining three aircraft arriving by mid-2005.
