UK carrier BMI has entrusted the heavy maintenance of its Airbus A330s to German specialist Lufthansa Technik’s Philippines operation (stand 421, Hall A).
Under a five-year agreement Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) will perform heavy checks on BMI’s trio of A330s. BMI is the fourth European carrier to turn to LTP for this service.“This was a difficult decision to make, given the location of LTP,” says BMI engineering director Ian Davies. “But they offered us a competitive package and a very positive approach to meeting our requirements.”
BMI joins a growing number of carriers entrusting their A330s and A340s to LTP. Others sending their aircraft to the facility at Ninoy Aquino International airport include Air Luxor, Air Mauritius, Austrian Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa and Philippine Airlines.
LTP started working on Airbus widebodies in October 2002 and added a second production line in 2004. Heavy maintenance for the A320 family followed and the company recently completed its first check for launch customer Lufthansa.
