Boeing says it set a new world record last week when one of its 777-200LR development aircraft touched down at London Heathrow after covering a non-stop distance of 21,578km (11,664nm) after an eastbound 22h 42min flight from Hong Kong. Boeing set the previous distance record for an aircraft of the same class after a 747-400 flew 17,020km non-stop between London and Sydney in 1989. The 777-200LR also exceeded the distance travelled by a 777-200ER that flew from Seattle to Kuala Lumpur in 1997 covering 20,023km. This record will continue to stand as the 777-200ER was classified in a lighter weight category.
