Boeing's board of directors has formerly appointed James Bell as chief financial officer. The 31-year Boeing veteran took over the CFO role on an interim basis late last year following the dismissal of Mike Sears due to unethical conduct. Before that, Bell served as Boeing senior vice-president of finance and corporate controller. Bell's appointment comes as Boeing is seeking to put recent controversy behind it. Sears was sacked last November. Sears had negotiated to hire Darleen Druyun as vice-president and deputy general manager of Boeing's Missile Defense Systems unit when she was working as a senior US Air Force procurement official and thus in a position to influence Boeing contracts.
