Flight International online news 08:30GMT: Boeing machinists are set to walk off the job today after voting against the manufacturer’s latest contract offer and in favour of strike action.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers says in a statement: “Machinists’ Union members voted twice today. Once to reject a contract offer by the Boeing Company that took away far more than it gave, and a second time to strike. Both votes were overwhelming.”

Union president Tom Buffenbarger adds that “at 12:01am, they will put down their tools and pick up their picket signs”.

The vote in favour of strike action was expected, as leaders of Boeing’s largest union earlier urged over 18,000 members to reject the manufacturer’s contract offer.

Buffenbarger says in his statement that “unless and until the Boeing Company improves their last offer significantly, the machinists will be pounding the pavement”.
