Boeing has opened its Research and Technology Centre in Madrid, Spain, the first outside the USA. Part of Boeing's Phantom Works research and development organisation, it will be headed by Dr Miguel Hernan and employ 30 engineers and scientists by year-end. Research topics include collaboration with Spain's Sener on control systems for fuel cells intended to replace auxiliary power units and a noise study at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport with the Netherlands' NLR national aerospace research centre and universities in Madrid and Barcelona.
