Boieng has revealed the first glimpse of the full length of the 76.3m (250ft) fuselage of the 747-8 Freighter.

The new image shows that Boeing has started to join the wing and centre section with the forward and aft fuselage sections.

“This final body join provides us the first real look at the size of the 747-8 Freighter,” says Mo Yahyavi, VP and general manager of the 747 programme.

The 747-8 family adds about 5.7m to the overall length of its predecessor the 747-400, and increases revenue cargo volume by 16%.

The 747-8 is due to achieve first flight by year-end, and delivery to launch customer Cargolux is expected in the third quarter of 2010.

Boeing has also recently completed a critical design review for the 747-8 Intercontinental passenger variant.
