Boeing rolled out the first of 50 717 twinjets for launch customer AirTran Airlines at its plant in Long Beach, California, on 23 January. AirTran, which holds options for an additional 50 717s, is due to take delivery of its first aircraft in mid-year. This first example will begin test flying this month.
