A Thermedics SecurScan prototype walk-through explosives detector has been field-tested at Boston's Logan International Airport, USA. Developed with US Federal Aviation Administration funding, it is designed to pick up explosives traces on people. Up to ten passengers can be screened every minute. The FAA has awarded Thermedics a $1 million contract to provide an undisclosed number of EGIS and portable Rampart detectors for US airports, and $700,000 to develop a portable EGIS system.
