Bombardier has introduced an upgraded CRJ900, with improved take-off and landing performance and increased range, which will become the standard production CRJ900, in a bid to enhance competitiveness against the Embraer 190. The aircraft has re-optimised wing leading-edge devices and redesigned wingtips and winglets to increase lift/drag ratio and reduce approach speed. The improvements increase payload/range capability from shorter runways, while the new winglet contributes to lower fuel burn. Bombardier has also introduced a Long Range (LR) variant of the 86-seat CRJ900 with the ability to carry a full passenger load 1,660km (896nm) from a 1,770m (5,800ft) runway.
