DE HAVILLAND DASH 8

Six Dash 8M aircraft operate with the Canadian Armed Forces. Two operate as CC-142 transports and four as CT-142 navigation trainers. Two Dash 8Ms are operated on behalf of the USAF as the E-9A for missile range control on the Gulf of Mexico missile test range. Three aircraft are operated for the Australian Customs "Coastwatch" programme by National Jet systems, with belly-mounted Litton APS504V(5) search radars and Wescam FLIR/TV.

CHALLENGER

The Canadian Forces and Government operate 17 Challenger business jets (CC-144/CC-144A) on missions which include transport, flight inspection/calibration, air ambulance, EW training and coastal patrol. Three Challenger 600s are also being operated by the Canadian Forces as coastal- patrol aircraft.

CANADAIR CL-215/415

The CL-215 twin-engined amphibian, although designed principally for firefighting, is used by Spain and Thailand for SAR and coastal patrol. The piston-powered CL-215 was first flown in 1967, and the re-engined, turbine-powered CL-215T in 1989. Spain has ordered 15 modification kits.

The CL-215 is no longer in production, with Bombardier now offering the improved CL-415 turboprop amphibian, first flown in December 1993. Deliveries of the CL-415 began in November 1994.

LEARJET 35A/36A

Special-mission aircraft based on the Learjet 35A/36A corporate jet include the RC-35A (for reconnaissance), the EC-35A (for electronic-warfare training) and the utility 35A.

The Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force's Learjet 36As, known as U-36As, are used for a variety of tasks. The USAF operates 84 Learjet 35As as the C-21A.
