Indo-Russian joint venture BrahMos Aerospace is aiming to become Asia's largest missile producer by 2007. The company, which manufactures supersonic cruise missiles, is planning to reach a $1 billion annual turnover by that date, says BrahMos Aerospace chief executive Dr S Pillai.

BrahMos is the first joint development programme between India's state-owned Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia's NPO.

It began development of the BrahMos cruise missile in July 1999 with initial funding of $250 million.

Six flight tests have been completed and the missile is expected to be ready for production from this year.
