Brazilian airwirthiness authorty the CTA and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) have certified Embraer’s 170 twinjet to perform Category 3a autolanding operations.

In a brief statement released today, Embraer says similar certification is expected soon from the US Federal Aviation Administration.

Category 3a autolanding requires an autopilot system that safely lands aircraft at low visibility - around 200m (660ft) runway visual range - and in adverse weather conditions. Embraer’s E-170 is also certified for Category 1 and 2 autolanding, the Brazilian manufacturer adds.
