THE BRAZILIAN Government signed the development contract for the ALX armed derivative of the Embraer EMB-312H Super Tucano on 18 August.

The air force plans to acquire 100 ALXs for use as the enforcement arm of the Raytheon-developed SIVAM Amazon-surveillance system and to replace EMB-326 Xavantes which are used for advanced training.

The ALX will be produced in single-seat A-29 and two-seat AT-29 variants. The aircraft will have four hard points under the wing and one under the fuselage.
