The Brazilian CTA has certificated the extended-range (XR), hot-and-high version of the Embraer ERJ-145 regional jet after 400h of flight tests.
Launch customer, regional carrrier ExpressJet, is to receive the first of the 50-seat aircraft family's latest addition in October after US certification. The Houston airline has ordered 104 plus 100 options to add to its ERJ-145 ER/LRs and 37-seat -135s.
The ERJ-145 XR has a range of 3,700km (2,000nm), against the LR's 2,775km and ER's 2,220km, and recently demonstrated a 2,100m (6,900ft) take-off length from runways at an elevation of up to 13,300ft. The aircraft is powered by an uprated Rolls-Royce AE3007A1E with 7% more take-off power, an increased 24,120kg (54,130lb) maximum take-off weight and winglets for lower specific fuel consumption.
