The Brazilian Ministry of Defence has finalised negotiations with Lockheed Martin to purchase 10 C-130Hs operated by the Italian air force.

Deliveries will take place over two years, with options for delivery of a further two aircraft. The $76 million deal is the final part of a three-way transaction where the airframes were traded in for the purchase of C-130Js by Italy.

Current planning envisages the delivery of the first six aircraft directly to Brazil during the second half of this year. A further four C-130Hs will be handed over early next year. The Brazilian air force now relies on seven C-130Es and five C-130Hs for its medium-transport commitments.

Five -Es are earmarked for an extensive modernisation.
