INTEGRATED PHOTOMATRIX (IPL) HAS DEVELOPED a system designed to make liquid crystal displays (LCDs) in cockpit panels and head-up displays (HUD) easier to read. The Dorchester, UK-based company's 10530-AAE detector monitors incident daylight and specifically excludes any near infra-red radiation, ensuring that the illumination of the LCD is instantly adjusted and the level of brilliance remains constant to the pilot. The detectors have been purchased by the US Navy for use in HUDs on the McDonnell-Douglas F-18.
