BA is concentrating on the engineering supply chain area in its use of Cordiem. "We're looking to implement functionalities with Cordiem that require minimal integration into our legacy systems," says Martin Bradley, manager B2B. These include inventory-listing tools, component sourcing and auctions. "We've used forward auctions to dispose of some JT8 engines and we believe it was a very efficient way of disposing them, in terms of how quickly and the price we achieved," he adds. The airline industry has a cost problem which means it must look at every piece of technology or tool to try to reduce costs, says Bradley. "We have to look at how to simplify, how to interface with the outside world and to utilise technology that will best manage the supply base," he adds.
