Soon after Continental Airlines announced it was delaying its start-up New York Newark to Buenos Aires service because of the poor economic climate in Argentina, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines sought permission to take over Continental's route authority with services from JF Kennedy and Washington Dulles airports. The carriers are asking the US Department of Transportation not to allow Continental's request to delay the launch of its daily service until December 2002. Delta and United state that they are willing to start up services in December this year.
